Baba Wawa: Hewwo! I'm Baba Wawa, and it's wuhnce again time for Baba Wawa at Wahge, wive fwom the Auto Show in Detwoit! My special guest today is the Pwesident and CEO of Fowud, Awan Muwawwy. Hewwo, Awan!
Alan Mulally: Good afternoon, Ms. Walters. It's a pleasure to be here.
BW: Baba, pwease, and the pweashuh is mine. It wooks wike you have a wot of weawy gweat things this yeauh at the show! Wet's wook at the new F-150, youwh best sewwing twuck.
AM: Well, as I'm sure your viewers know, Barbara, fuel economy is a big talking point these days.
BW: Oh, yes, those wepwessive fedewal weguwations stwike again!
AM: Well, Barbara, those are indeed challenges we have to work with in the industry. And we're using some pretty advanced technology to help our CAFE grow. The new truck uses aluminum in a substantial portion of its structure.
BW: Awuminum? Will wuhk twuck buyuhs weally wally awound that bandwagon? What about customuhs who dwive thwough wava?
AM: Most definitely, yes. Aluminum body panels provide the strength and durability our customers need, while saving significant weight compared to steel. And our Super Duty trucks will be more than up for the challenge for those driving around ash holes.
BW: What about the incweased wepaiuh costs and skywocketing inshuwance pwemiums?
AM: With the greater acceptance and use of aluminum in the industry, increased costs should not be a material factor. See what I did there?
BW: Vewy cute, Awan! But awen't some of yowuh customuhs tuhned off by the gwandiose guhth of the new F-150? Wouldn't they be bettuh suhved by, say, the gwobahl Wangeuh you sell?
AM: NO! NO CANNIBALIZATION! THE F-SERIES MUST REMAIN THE BEST SELLING VEHICLE IN AMERICA! Uh...I mean, the global Ranger is really about 90% of the size of the F-150. When two vehicles are that close in size and capabilities, it doesn't make economic sense for us to spend the money to develop both for the American market.
BW: Bewieve me, wadies, size does mattuh! Let's move on to some othuh big news. Wampant wumouhs have been spweading watewy about youwuh choice of empwoyer. You've been keeping the ansuh cwose to youwuh vest, so wet's cwash test the qwestion stwaight-on — is Awan Muwawwy fweeing fwom Fowud?
AM: No, Barbara, I'm staying right here at Ford. I really do enjoy my job, and as a retention incentive, they've increased my vest allowance for next year — who could pass that up?
BW: Wewl, I'd wuhve to see yowuh wewauhd if you manage to wigt the wongs at Wincuhn. That pwace is a twain weck. Unfowtunatewy, that's awh the time we have with Awan Muwawwly — Awan, I apwecciate this OPPOwtunity.
AM: Thank you, Barbara!
BW: Pwease join me next time on Baba Wawa at Waghe, when my special guest will be the new Genewal Motuhs CEO Mawy Bawah. I'm Baba Wawa wishing you a good day!
